Can I tell you a secret? I’m writing this WAY before I even announce our pregnancy. There are 5 weeks left until my second trimester begins! At this point, I have gotten comfortable with a routine that works for me. I am writing these in real time, so I don’t forget any details. All of the products listed below will be linked in a widget for easy shopping access.
If you’re looking for a morning routine to hold you accountable to take good care of yourself, and get up out of bed even on the hard mornings, hopefully this will help you stay on track.
6:40 AM
Say goodbye to my husband before he leaves for work, and pray with him. We always pray for safety, health, and for our little one to continue to grow big and strong. Then I will fall back to sleep for another 30 minutes, so I can be sure I am well rested. I need much more sleep now than I ever have before!
7:10 AM
Alarm goes off, and I will open up my She Reads Truth Bible app. Read daily devotional while laying in bed, and enjoy a little snack to get something in my system while reading. Graham crackers, saltines, or Bel Vitas have been my favorites. I’ve noticed that if I don’t eat something first thing in the morning, I feel more nauseous during the day. So having a little bite of something helps me get a good start to the morning.
7:20 AM
Turn on Mornings with the Masters devotional podcast, make bed, and drink some water from my Stanley mug with my prenatal vitamin. This podcast is a great way to kick off the day with so much scriptural truth, and some time to just press into the Lord and His Word. As I listen to the podcast, I like to get the bed put back together. If you are looking for a great prenatal vitamin, I highly recommend the one from Ritual. One of my favorite things about this vitamin is that it can be taken on an empty stomach. And, it is citrus flavored, so it doesn’t taste like absolute garbage going down. It’s really the ideal situation.
7:25 AM
Continue listening to the podcast, pick out daily outfit, head into the bathroom, brush teeth, and get in the shower. I have found myself gravitating towards a matching set with an oversized t-shirt during the day. It feels really nice and easy to put on an outfit that already matches, so that is one less thing for me to have to worry about in the mornings. I like this one from Amazon, and I have it in like a million colors. Once I am dressed, I brush my teeth with the Blaq electric toothbrush (it’s a fan favorite, and by fan I mean me).
7:40 AM
Once I am out of the shower I do my hair, and skincare. For my hair, I love a sleek bun, or a little claw clip action with some dry shampoo.
And then I get into my basic skincare for the day. Nothing too crazy, just a few steps I love. When I was a few weeks into pregnancy, I had a freak out and realized that so many of the products I used were not pregnancy safe. I don’t want to let fear keep me from living my life (basically they tell you everything is dangerous during pregnancy), but I definitely wanted to make sure the products I was putting on my skin were safe for baby. I found this website I really like at the beginning of my pregnancy called 15 Minute Beauty, and it is a blog written by a doctor, sharing popular brands and which products of theirs are pregnancy safe. It gets SO confusing, so it is really helpful to have a resource I can trust for this.
Anyways, here are my basic skincare steps for the morning.
- Wash face using Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm
- Use serums (I like using the Summer Fridays Vitamin C serum)
- Moisturize! I have been really liking the Elemis moisturizer. Actually, a bunch of the Elemis products are pregnancy safe!
- Finish off with an SPF. Before pregnancy, when I was self-tanned I used the Supergoop sunscreen, and when I am was going natural, I used the Tula sunscreen. I have transitioned into a safer sunscreen option now, being the Summer Fridays Shadedrops SPF 30.
8:00 AM
Head into the kitchen, serve breakfast for the fur balls, and get Kopari ready to leave. He uses a Wild One leash, and this incredible lead over his jaw to help him not tug on the leash. He also has a little seat-like thing in the backseat, so he doesn’t destroy my seats. All of his things will be linked.
8:05 AM
Walk around outside of our building with Kopari for a few minutes, and then get him loaded into the car for our morning Dunkin’ run. Kopari loves to be in the car, so I take him with me in the mornings for coffee. Something that I have noticed about being early in pregnancy is that I have felt really lonely when I am by myself. Usually I like to spend time alone, and do things by myself, but ever since getting pregnant, being alone is a lot harder. And when I work from home, it is basically lonely all day. So I think it is an easy solution to have Kopari with me to make me feel like I have some company on my drive. I love to listen to podcasts on my drive to entertain me. Either that or I call my mom! LOL
8:25 AM
Arrive at Dunkin to pick up my cold brew, and Kopari’s pup-cup. Before all the pregnancy trolls attack me, just know I only drink half of my coffee each day to be sure I don’t overdo the caffeine intake. Until my food aversions turn me off from coffee, I like keeping my Dunkin in my routine. I order a medium caramel cold brew with sweet cold foam. Then I get 2 pumps of liquid cane sugar, and a little bit of oat milk to cream it up!
8:45 AM
Get back home, and set up work station with chargers, and work day necessities. More recently, I have been really hungry by this time, so I have been making toast with a little bit of Kerrygold butter for some flavor with a glass of orange juice after I finish my coffee. Another thing that has been tasting extra delightful is my coconut milk yogurt with fresh strawberries. Also been DROOLING over grapefruit recently. Most days I try to sit on a barstool at our island to help me focus and not get too comfortable on the couch! I like to make sure I am sitting up like I would be at my work desk, so I can get my best work done. But, if I am having any back pain or body aches, I will sit on the chaise on my sectional to get a little comfier.
9:00 AM
Work officially begins, and we are off to a great start to the day!
I hope you enjoyed this type of post. Routines are a really important part of my life. Having a routine helps keep my mental health in check. I will make a new morning routine post as I get into my second and third trimesters, with updated details. Hopefully I will start to feel less nauseous, and more energized as I get further into my pregnancy. For all my first trimester girls out there, it gets better. You can do this. If there are any questions I can help you with, please let me know. Pregnancy is hard, but it is even harder without a community. So, please let me know how I can serve you best. Love you girls so much, and we will chat soon!
XO,
Maz
