It’s Been Too Long: A Pregnancy Catch-Up

Long time no talk, girls! How are we? I hope you are enjoying the beautiful leaves changing, and cooler temperatures. Here in Tennessee, we have the most incredible view from our apartment of the fall colors, and it is really just an ideal situation. I wanted to pop in today and just give you a quick update on life, and our pregnancy journey. It’s been almost eight weeks since have chatted last, so a lot has changed! Our house now has a “baby corner” with bottles, diapers, blankets, and pacifiers we have been collecting, my belly has POPPED, and my favorite update: we know the baby’s gender! AHH!

September

A couple of months ago, Hayden and I took an afternoon to go get an extra ultrasound to find out the gender of our baby. We had the most exciting time finding out, and it has been so much fun to know who we have in my belly. After we knew the gender for about a month, I started feeling flutters, which turned into kicks! Now, I am feeling this kid rolling around many times a day. It is the most amazing feeling. I can’t even explain how it feels, besides incredible! In September, we also got to tell our families the gender of our baby. It was so exciting!

October

I hit 22 weeks yesterday, so we are officially over halfway to meeting our little bean. This week, we had our 20-week anatomy scan. To be honest, I was terrified. I basically didn’t tell anyone we had the scan because I was worried something would go wrong. Anxiety has been so prevalent in pregnancy. That was something I was not prepared for when I got pregnant. I didn’t realize how scary it would be to worry about your baby every waking moment. Mom guilt is real, even before the baby is born! You want to be sure you do the right things and don’t mess anything up. It is a lot.

If you don’t know, the 20-week anatomy scan is a normal sonogram most moms have between 18-22 weeks. As exciting as it is to see your little wiggle worm moving, and grooving, it is also really nerve-racking. This scan can reveal the baby’s gender (if you don’t already know) and looks at the baby’s head, spine, heart, face, tummy, and other organs, and also checks for rare conditions. To an anxious person, this scan feels like an opportunity for a lot to go wrong. I asked my sister a lot of questions about this specific scan, so I had a heads-up on what to expect, which I was so thankful for.

For our scan, we had to go to the high-risk pregnancy center due to an issue with insurance. So, at the high-risk center, we got our ultrasound done, but we went back to my OB’s office to go over the results. The scan itself took around 30 minutes. It was very similar to the gender reveal scan we had done in September. We were incredibly thankful to hear that our babe is doing just great in there. Everything is looking normal, and healthy. Our baby was 13 ounces, and in the 36th percentile for size, with a cute little button nose! What a relief! I had a lab test done and had a funky result, so they sent it off for some extra testing, but I got those results back today and everything is clear for me, too!

Lots of nerves and anxiety leading up to that day, but the relief I feel now made it worth it.

Coming Soon

We are preparing to announce the gender! EEEP! Next up, is our glucose test in November. I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy is going. I also will be having a baby shower coming up soon, too, and I am SO excited about it. At our glucose test, I will be 26 weeks. Then we will go back again at 30, 32, 34, 36, 37, 38, 39, and 40 weeks. We will be planning our tour of the Labor and Delivery unit at our hospital soon, so Hayden can see the area we will be in when I go into labor. I am familiar with the area already because my first nephew was born there, and I spent a lot of time with my sister at the hospital after he arrived. It feels good to know I will be delivering somewhere I have been before, and I will be excited for Hayden to see it. Our registry is getting close to being done, and we’re excited to enjoy one more holiday season just the two of us before our little babe is here in late February.

What We Have for Baby

Here’s our current baby item lineup. Because of my pregnancy anxiety, it has been really hard for me to bring baby stuff into our home. But, now that I am feeling more secure in our pregnancy, and everything is looking great, I am feeling better. So, to some people, this may not feel like a lot of stuff to have at 22 weeks, but this is just right for us right now. 🙂

  • Diapers (4 packs of newborn diapers)
  • Pacifiers (1 pack of 4 Phillips Avent pacis)
  • Easter Basket (My sister convinced me to buy an Easter basket for this baby before we even knew the gender, LOL)
  • Bottles (2 Nanobebe bottles that were sent to us from the brand- they are SO cute)
  • Stroller and Carseat Travel System
  • Onesies (1 preemie onesie, and 3 newborn onesies, all plain white)
  • 1 Sleeper Sack (Kyte Baby has the SOFTEST options)
  • 1 Swaddle Blanket
  • Books (Starting our library early!)
  • 1 Illini Onesie (Gotta make sure this baby can twin with Daddy!)

So, that’s our latest! Thanks for joining me on this journey.

XO, M
